Amazon New Reward Program
According to the Verge, Amazon is rolling out a new rewards program that gives its Flex delivery drivers easier access to shifts based on the amount of work they’ve done for the company. According to Amazon spokesperson, the Flex rewards program is in its early stages, but is being rolled out to all drivers in the US. As well as access to shifts, the program also includes access to a cash back debit card, including discounts and financial services, confirmed to CNBC.
However, it was launched in 2015 and now available in more than 50 cities across the US, Amazon Flex is simply a service that lets freelance drivers to register for shifts to deliver Amazon or whole foods orders. The new rewards program could incentive drivers to complete more orders for Amazon, rather than spitting their time with other gig economy services like Uber and Instacart, according to CNBC.
About the Reward Program
Of specific use to drivers is the reward program’s preferred scheduling feature, which includes easier access to shifts. These are often hotly contested between drivers, and there have been reports of some using bots to access in-demand shifts. CNBC noted that drivers can at times have just seconds to register for shift blocks, higher levels of the rewards program give up to 30 mins to accept a reserved shift.
However, drivers can register preferred delivery stations, days, and times, and will get more offers of reserved shifts as they level up in program, according to Amazon.
Nevertheless, the rewards program is based on points which drivers earn based on the number of deliveries and shifts they complete. Thus, additional points are given based on metrics like completing deliveries on time. Though driver’s points reset with each three month earrings period, Amazon says that any rewards accrued will apply across the following period.
Rewards Program Features
As the preferred scheduling feature, the program also includes a debit card which offers cash back on purchases, including fuel and Amazon purchases.
Cash back on fuel purchases goes up to 6% based on a driver’s level, and they’ll also get 2% cash back on Amazon purchases and 1% back on other purchases.
The debits card’s account is provided by Green Dot, and comes with an app to track and manage transactions.
There’s no registration for the Flex rewards program. Drivers can keep track of the amount of points they accrue through the Flex app, according to Amazon’s website.
