Well, this is how I feel about it, I really don’t know about you. But a survey recently carried out shows that a huge chunk of Gmail account holders and users aren’t finding this thing funny at all.

How to Get Rid of That Irritating Meet Tab in Gmail for Android and iOS

Google meet is quite a tool and platform to make use of. If you have made use of this Google video conferencing tool, then you should know exactly what I mean. I have used it a couple of times that I can’t recall all. But one thing however I really don’t like is the fact that the feature gets nudged or should I say pushed at me rather via other apps.

Gmail is the most of all the apps used in carrying out this operation, and I think I have just had enough of it, many users wrote. What if I told you that you can actually get rid of this easily? Wouldn’t that be wonderful?

At first, when Google meet appeared on the desktop Gmail app in the spring of 2020, there wasn’t really much to put to it as it didn’t take up much space. You wouldn’t even know that it is there.

Months later, the video calling app makes its way to the Gmail mobile app and this can be accessed via two tabs at the bottom of the Gmail app screen. The two tabs are labeled mail and meet respectively.

One thing users didn’t really like is that they feel cajoled into using a different app when all they wanted to do is to check their emails. Another thing is that it also takes up space. While expanding to the bottom margin of the app, gives you approximately three fewer lines to work with.

How to Remove the Meet Tab on Your iOS And Android Gmail Apps

You can make use of the meets app and not necessarily care about the whole space taking of a thing. But if on the other hand, you wish to get rid of it, here’s how to do it;

  • Open the Gmail app on your mobile device, android, or iOS.
  • Select the hamburger icon in the upper left corner.
  • Scroll down the extended menu page and tap on the Settings option.
  • Next, select the Gmail account you want to make changes to.
  • Lastly, scroll down to the meets category and uncheck ‘show the meet tab for video calling’.

That’s it. You have now successfully removed the meets app and freed space on your Gmail app.
